Nearly two decades of my life were spent in the nonprofit world, working for both a city builder and an animal welfare organization. It was time for a change, so I turned my enthusiasm for language and literature into a career. I’ve always been a word nerd, with the curse of seeing the errors in just about anything I pick up to read. I have certificates from Poynter ACES in copy editing, EFA Editing Fiction, Louise Harnby Line Editing, and Proofread Anywhere (Proofreading Theory and Practice), all well-regarded in the editorial world. Who knew I would enjoy editing and proofreading so much?
As a member of the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) and the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), I belong to an enthusiastic community of professionals and regularly take advantage of their continuing education opportunities.
When I’m not working, I’m probably reading—a lifelong preferred pastime! Otherwise, I’ll be with my small black dog, Posy (who bears a startling resemblance to a tiny black fox), my elderly ex-racehorse, Betty, or taking a yoga class taught by my best friend.
