Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between copyediting and proofreading?
Copyediting and proofreading are services that will help your writing shine. Copyediting is a thorough review of the text to ensure it's well-structured and flows smoothly. It ensures your text is clear, concise, and free of errors. Proofreading is the last step in the editing process to catch any remaining inconsistencies, typos, or mistakes. The main difference between the two is in the level of detail involved.
What’s involved in the editing process?
To begin, I like to do a sample edit of approximately 1000 words of your manuscript, free of charge. This helps us both determine whether we’ll work well together. Next, we’ll set the work schedule and rate, and then I’ll begin working. I’ll work closely with you to improve your writing and ensure that it's polished and engaging. Together, we'll make sure your manuscript is the best it can be!
What is your turnaround time?
The turnaround time will depend on the specific needs of your project and my availability. Each project is different, and it’s best to reach out to me for an individual quote.
What are your rates?
My goal is to offer affordable, quality work. My rates follow those outlined by the Editorial Freelancer’s Association, and I quote each project individually. This includes up to two revisions—anything beyond that will be an added cost. A 33% nonrefundable deposit is due upfront, with the other two thirds spread out over the course of the project. I accept payment through Zelle, PayPal, and Venmo.
Will my book be perfect?
My top priority is to improve the overall quality of your text and ensure that it's polished and professional. As I mentioned in my bio, trust is essential to me, and that trust is built on honesty. While I aim for perfection, I understand that it's not always attainable in just two or three rounds of editing, which is the industry standard.
During the first round of editing, I'll assess the scope of the work needed to enhance your manuscript's quality. However, I want to be upfront with you and say that I can't promise to catch every possible mistake. That would be unrealistic and unfair to you.
What I can promise is that I'll give your project my all, and I'll work diligently to ensure that your manuscript is the best it can be. I won't make any promises I can't keep, like delivering a perfect manuscript. But rest assured, I'll do everything in my power to make sure that your text is polished, professional, and meets the highest editorial standards.
